Abstract: Today, in the teaching of French as a foreign language in Algeria, little importance is given to poetic texts. Many teachers, if not all, do not always know how to approach poetry at school; this type of text seems ambitious or even little accessible to their learners. The steps taken are often reductive and can be summarized, for example, in a work of diction, memorization, or study of the structure of the text. These activities do not really contribute to an understanding of the poem being addressed. This is why we have chosen to work on teaching the understanding of writing in FLE through poetry, which in our sense would be a different but relevant approach to develop the competence of understanding the text.
