Shaykh Uthman ben Fuddi el Qadiri (1754-1818) and the
influence of the reformist thought of el Maghili through the manuscript of “The
Principles of Justice”: Shaykh Uthman ben Fuddi el Qadiri el Fullani (1754-
1817) is considered among the most important reformists in the region of
Western Sudan during the twelfth and thirteenth centuries Hegira, eighteenth
and nineteenth centuries A.D. He was influenced, to a large extent, by the
thoughts and reformist way of Shaykh Muhamad ben Abdulkareem el Maghili
el Tilimsani (died in 909 Hegira, 1504 A.D.). This influence can be clearly
noticed in the works of Shaykh ben Fuddi, particularly in his book Ussul el
Aadl “The Principles of Justice”. The paper focuses on this influence through a
comparison between this book and el Maghili’s book Taj ed Dine fi ma Yajib
ala el Muluk wa Es Salatin “The Crown of Religion on the duty of Kings and
Sultans”. |
