Abstract: This work was recorded as part of the study of damage to reinforced concrete structures due to the cracks caused by the shrinkage. Concrete is a building material that finds its field of application practically in all areas of Civil Engineering. The appearance of a nonlinear behavior during loading on concrete results in the initiation of microcrack propagation in the volume of the material. The study of this type of behavior calls for the mechanics of damage. Concrete being a complex and heterogeneous material, there are several phenomena that influence its behavior. Among them, the phenomenon of shrinkage which caused deformations due to the decrease of the water content or the dimensions of the aggregates. The shrinkage of the concrete is often assimilated to a reduction in volume. On the macroscopic scale, damage is observed when the mechanical properties of the material are affected at different scales (chemical degradation of the mixture, severe cracking, breakage of the structure, etc.). The aim of this work is to study the propagation of cracks in a RC structure simulated by the three-point bending of a beam subjected to efforts and by measuring the strain deformation during the damage of this beam.
