This research focuses on the discipline of literature studies. Such research is crucial to clarify the application of the light and dark romanticism subgenres of Romanticism, specifically how the former is used in Washington Irving's short story "Rip Van Winkle" and a detailed examination of the narrative from a romantic viewpoint. In contrast, the latter is employed in Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Fall of the House of Usher" by highlighting the plot's darker aspects and the significance of the author's personal history. Furthermore, the differences between the two subgenres has been pointed out.en_US
