This paper discusses an aspect of the cultural and scientific life in Tunisia between 1875 and 1956, as education is a primary element in the process of development and a criterion of prosperity. Prior to its evolution, education in Tunisia was confined in mosques and traditional schools known as Zawaya and Katatib. Afterwards, modern schools were established, such as Bardo School, all-girls schools, and Al Zaytuna Mosque that witnessed educational reforms to modernise it. With the creation of the Sadiki and the Khaldunian institutes, Tunisian took a unique cultural leap forward. As a result, the Khaldunian and Sadiki associations were born, which did not only focus on the scientific aspect. The influence of these associations grew beyond education to reach the political and social levels. They engaged in political conferences and educated the broad masses and not only their students. Furthermore, they had a major role in the development of the Tunisian press, which had a national reach.
