يعد المكان عنصرا اساسيا في بناء وتشكيل الاعمال السردية عامة ، والروائية بصفة خاصة ، فهو الذي يؤطر للمادة الحكائية وينظم الاحداث ، فلا يمكن تخيل احداث دون وجود مكان يحتوي ثللك الاحداث ، كما تكمن اهميته في اعتباره العنصر المكمل للعناصر الفية الاخرى ، كالزمن ، والشخصيات ، وذلك بوجود علاقة تربط العناصر بعضها ببعض ، وهذا الترابط يضفي على الرواية عنصر الجمالية والانسجام في ثناياها .
