Sociolinguistic Variation in Tinerkouk Spoken Arabic

Abstract

The present research is set to investigate and analyse the sociolinguistic variation in Tinerkouk which is a small village in Timimoun, a province of Adrar. The main purpose of this research is to describe the salient linguistic features that characterise this speech community mainly the phonological, the morphological and the lexical. This research consists of two chapters. The first one provides an overview of the field of sociolinguistics by defining the main key concepts that we have dealt with. Then we give definitions of Arabic and its varieties i.e. CA, MSA and colloquial Arabic. The second chapter is devoted to test the correlation between the salient linguistic features of Tinerkouk spoken Arabic and the two selected social variables: age and gender. It also mentions a socio- historical overview of Tinerkouk. We used a quantitative method to collect data from the speech community under investigation.

يهدف البحث الحالي إلى دراسة و تحليل التباين اللغوي الاجتماعي في تينركوك و هي قرية صغيرة في تيميمون، إحدى مقاطعات أدرار. الغرض الرئيسي من هذا البحث هو وصف السمات اللغوية البارزة التي تميز هذا المجتمع اللغوي و تحديدا السماتالصوتية و الصرفية و المعجمية. يتكون هذا البحث من فصلين. يقدم الفصل الأول لمحة عامة عن مجال علم اللغة الاجتماعي من خلال تحديد المفاهيم الأساسية الرئيسية التي تندرج تحت هذا المجال. ثم يقدم تعريفات اللغة العربية و أنواعها مثل اللغة العربية القديمة و الحديثة و العامية. أما الفصل الثاني فقد خُصص لدراسة العلاقة بين السمات اللغوية البارزة للهجة تينركوك و المتغيرَين الاجتماعيَين : العمر و الجنس. كما يشير إلى لمحة عامة اجتماعية - تاريخية عن تينركوك. استخدمنا المنهج الكمي لجمع البيانات من المجتمع اللغوي قيد الدراسة.
