Life Follows Fiction

Abstract

إن هاته المذكرة عبارة عن دراسة لوجهة النظر القائلة بان الخيال ليس فقط استحضار للواقع بل ولديه القدرة على خلقه كذلك، الكاتب الأمريكي جون جاردنر أيد هذا الطرح بقوله إن "الحياة تتبع الخيال"، نظرا لأهميتها في الثقافة الأمريكية، تتخذ الأطروحة رواية كوخ العم توم للكاتبة هارييت بتشر ستاو كنموذج لتقييم مدى صحة إدعاء جاردنر بخصوص الخيال، قيل إن هاته الرواية جاءت كرد على العبودية بشكل عام وقانون العبيد الهارب الذي اصدر عام 1850 بشكل خاص. اتضح أن كوخ العم توم كان لها تأثير على المجتمع الأمريكي فيما يخص مسالة الرق، صورت ستاو معانات العبيد بما في ذلك: تشتت أفراد العائلة، الاستغلال الجسدي ومعاملة العبيد كممتلكات خاصة، هذا ما خلف نداء عاطفي قوي لقراء الرواية.

This note is a study of the viewpoint that imagination is not only a summation of reality but has the ability to create it as well. American writer John Gardner supported this proposition by saying that "life follows the imagination", given its importance in American culture, the thesis takes Uncle Tom's Cabin novel by the writer Harriet Butcher Stowe as a model for assessing the validity of Gardner's claim about fiction, it is said that this novel came as a response to slavery in general and the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 in particular. It turns out that Uncle Tom's Cabin had an impact on American society on the issue of slavery. Stow depicted slave suffering, including: dispersal of family members, physical exploitation and treatment of slaves as private property, which left a strong emotional appeal to the readers of the novel.
