Summary
This study aims to confirm the effectiveness of a counseling program designed
primarily to improve the level of self-concept among children who belong to broken families
in the primary stage in its four dimensions (the social dimension, the psychological dimension, the mental dimension, and the physical dimension) and who obtain low scores on the selfconcept scale.
To test the effectiveness of this counseling program, we relied on the experimental
method for a sample of 32 children, divided into two equal groups, 16 in the experimental group, and 16 in the control group. To control the variables of the study, the self-concept scale prepared by researcher Al-Awfi Faiza was used, and the Goodnaff intelligence test (Drawing a Man) we relied on the pre- and post-application .
The results showed that there were statistically significant differences in the scores of
the experimental group on the dimensions of the self-concept scale in the pre- and postmeasurements after applying the counseling program in favor of the post-application. To know the size of the program’s effect, we calculated the “eta square” effect factor, and through
the results obtained, it became clear that the size of the program’s effect was the impact of the program was between great and huge. The results also indicated that there were statistically significant differences between the scores of the experimental group and the control group on the dimensions of the self-concept scale in the post-measurement after applying the guidance program to the experimental group in favor of the experimental group. Here we also calculated the effect factor “eta square” and the results confirmed the huge size of the effect. Guidance programme.
On the other hand, the results also showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the scores of the experimental group on the dimensions of the self-concept scale in the post- and follow-up measurements two months after applying the counseling program. If anything, this indicates the effectiveness of the program designed in this research and that it brought about a change in their personality and in the basic pillar of this personality is improving the level of self-concept. |
