This study aims to analyze and measure the impact of Algerian-African trade exchange on economic growth in Algeria during the period from 1970 to 2022 where the development of real GDP and per capita real GDP and their growth rates (RGDPG, RGDPPCG) were analyzed as indicators of economic growth in Algeria. Indicators of Algerian-African trade exchange are the development of Algeria’s exports to Africa (EXPOG), Algeria’s imports from Africa (IMPOG), the rate of Algeria’s trade openness to Africa (TOP), the rate of coverage and the geographical distribution of Algerian-African trade. To study the impact of Algerian-African trade exchange on the Economic Growth in Algeria, the Developed Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model -Augmented ARDL- was used. Two models were used. The first one includes growth in real GDP as a function of EXPOG, EXPOG, TOP, gross fixed capital formation as a percentage of GDP (GGFCF) and net foreign direct investment (FDI). The second model contains the growth in the real GDP per capita as a function of the same independent variables as the first model. The results showed that there is a positive relationship between exports and economic growth in the two models, and the same for trade openness, while there is a negative relationship between imports and economic growth in Algeria. |
